Crowns are often needed as a part of a treatment to restore teeth that have perhaps undergone root canal treatment, or there has been severe tooth surface loss, or to fix poor aesthetic appearance.
At Arrowe Park Dental Practice we have a range of bonded and ceramic crowns providing the ultimate long lasting aesthetic result.
When do you need a crown?
Usually when there is insufficient tooth substance to allow fillings or veneers that will disguise cracked and discoloured teeth. Crowning maybe the only viable option to allow your teeth to function properly and ensure you maintain a perfect smile.
Crowns can support dental bridges to fill gaps created by missing teeth and provide longevity to heavily restored teeth.
Repairing your teeth with a crown will improve your smile but it will also reduce the strain put on your teeth at either side. A gap can also affect your bite because the teeth next to the space can lean into the gap and alter the way the upper and lower teeth bite together. This can then lead to food getting packed into the gap, which causes further decay and gum disease.
Making the perfect crown for your teeth
We want to make sure your new crown matches perfectly with your teeth otherwise your smile could look very odd. First and foremost we will make an initial diagnosis to have the broken or missing tooth restored. The remaining tooth structure will be reduced to a stump and an impression will be taken and sent to the dental laboratory. Finally the new dental crown is fitted about one week later.
